Review Wayang: 'Real Steel'

Salaam. Baiklah... seperti yang dijanjikan, saya akan buat review pasal movie yang telah saya tonton semalam, iaitu 'Real Steel' <cut off that formal slang>. OK, tapi sebelum tu, saya mau ingatkan: ini bukan main-main punya komen. Ini kritis punya... <gahh. Bragging much!?>

1/5?? Why!?

Hebat kot.. grafik dia.

Heh. Ramai terkejut bila saya bagi 1 daripada 5 bintang, apabila diminta pendapat untuk menilai. Seriously, saya ndaklah begitu kejam bhaa. 1/5 adalah skor bagi kebolehdugaannya. Bingung? OKlah. Let us make this simple. 

Saya secara peribadinya mempunyai teknik sendiri dalam menilai sesuatu filem; aya ada beberapa aspek yang saya adili Bukan berlagak analitik, tapi begitulah; bila kawan tanya, saya boleh komen setelus-telusnya. Only several movies have made it through. I mean, through my judgment <saya intrikat, OK? And I'm also meticulous>. So, what aspects do I criticize? You'll see as you read through. 

1. Goosebump effect

Perkara pertama yang saya akan kritik adalah efek emosional filem tersebut kepada diri saya. Berapa kali saya rasa mau menangis, berapa kali saya rasa berdiri bulu roma dan berapa kali saya rasa marah. Jaranglah filem mampu pengaruhi saya <wayang Malaysia, satupun ndak pernah berjaya dalam aspek neh. Ketawakan mereka.. HaHaHaHaH> dan most of the time, filem dari Hollywood jaa yang mampu buat. 'Flipped' dan 'Mr Magorium's Wonder Emporium' adalah dua contoh filem yang mempunyai goosebump effect yang baik. Sangat baik.

Untuk Real Steel, saya bagi 9.87 dari 10. Sangat menarik. Emosi saya terpengaruh dengan mudah, pengarahnya pintar dalam memanipulasi nilai empati manusia untuk mengasihani beberapa watak dalam filem tu, terutamanya Atom. Atom... dia robot hero yang berupa humanoid. Ketaatannya terhadap Max, si budak penemunya betul-betul menggoyang rasa. Masa dia ditemui dalam kawasan junkyard dan masa dia tengok diri-sendiri dengan cermin umpama memberikan dia suatu kesedaran manusiawi, macam benda tu hidup.

Ohh.. inilah Atom, robot humanoid paling kool pernah saya nampak.

Babak yang paling meninggalkan kesan adalah apabila Max tanya dia, "Do you understand me?". Atom- yalah robotkan- diam jaa. Dan peliknya, saya nampak dia macam mengangguk and I think all the audience expect it to do so. Bila kamera zoom dekat muka, wau... sangat memberi kesan.

Ni robot masa Noisy Boy <milik Charles> lawan Midas. Bapak senang dikalahkan. Kahahaha... itulah, tamak biar bertempat.

Serius kool. PERGH!

Part lain yang turut memberi kesan adalah masa mereka menangi hati penonton dalam pertandingan WRB. Walaupun bukan juara, tapi Charles dan Max berjaya menemukan semula apa yang mereka selama ini kurang; hubungan anak dan bapa <mereka yang bergelar bapa, patut tengok filem ni>.

2. Adrenaline effect

Adrenaline effect hanya dapat dilihat pada wayang-wayang aksi dan thriller. Romantik dan kisah sedih tiada dan kalaupun ada, jarang. Bagi sesetengah orang, inilah yang paling penting, sebab ianya mampu menyebabkan penonton berfikir bahawa filem yang ditonton bersifat realistik. Adrenaline effect mampu menyebabkan orang melompat, bertinju dan berteriak di tempat duduk mereka dan wayang yang baik untuk dijadikan contoh adalah 'The Commander', sebuah wayang sci-fi dan 'Harry Potter: The Deathly Hallow'.

Untuk 'Real Steel', saya bagi 7.9 dari 10. Ndak padat dengan aksi, tapi lebih banyak percakapan demi percakapan; konflik kewangan dan sebagainya, which is quite good. Filem neh, kalau capai 10 dari 10 pada skala adrenaline effect jarang dapat markah tinggi untuk goosebump effect. Nampak terlalu rigid, teknikal dan kurang emosi. 'Real Steel'- walaupun agak teknikal, mampu memberi punchlines yang kuat pasal adrenaline effect. Berjaya, saya patut kata. Tahniah Steve Levy dan Steven Spielberg.

Kanak-kanak, buat perisian?? Hmm... who knows, right?

3. Audio effect

Audio effect- as its meaning says, is a quality that any film should aim high. Good audio and music blend will create certain atmospheres and if it can be synchronized well with the visual transitions, will be audience a smack. Quite a number of films can do this right, and again- in Malaysia, no film, I repeat, NO FILM can do it. They're all failed and foiled stuffs. Included in this audio effect are background music, conversation volume, emotion and vividness, sound effects, songs and setting sound, like the sound of rolling tires, et cetera, et cetera. If you ask my which movie have a very high mark on this, it is again, 'Mr Magorium's Wonder Emporium' and also, 'Das Fliegende Klassenzimmer'.

'Das Fliegende Klassenzimmer' bermaksud, 'The Flying Classroom'.
Serius best neh wayang. I'd even can conclude that this is
German's best motion picture <the nearest contender is 'Pan's Labyrinth'.

'Real Steel' has it, but is lacking. At the very beginning, I was anticipating the sound of wheat being blown by breeze and the sound of the truck's tires, driven by Charles. Potholes crossing gives an advantage and it pretty much symbolizing typical outskirts'  road. Heck. They're good at this.

Serius... saya macam mau peluk oh, ni benda. Macam manusia neh, kiut lagi <Wehh!? Adakaa robot cute??>.

But as the film progresses, all the components go banana. Background music dwindles, songs and setting sound effects reduce. Albeit, sound effects of actions:- especially when the robots are fighting really give me an adrenaline rush all over. Those mechanical SFX are Hollywood's expertise. No need to emphasize on that. Overall, I give 'Real Steel' 7.6 out of 10. Quite nice-lah.

4. Unpredictability

Ketidakbolehramalan adalah aspek yang agak penting jugak. Ianya adalah aspek di mana manusia/penonton tidak dapat meneka sama sekali pengakhiran filem dan plotnya. Sebabnya kalau terlalu mudah diramal, orang akan rasa bosan dan boleh tidur neh dalam panggung. Dua contoh yang sangat bagus adalah 'Bridge to Terabithia' dan 'Scream 4'.

'Bridge to Terabithia'. A must-see-seriously. Cari DVD dia capat!!

Nasib baiklah 'Real Steel' neh aspek lainnya cemerlang, sebab saya bagi 2.3 dari 10. Kalau ndak, habis muflis sipembuat filem. Jalan ceritanya sangat ringkas dan boleh diagak plot demi plot <mungkin disebabkan saya sudah nampak trailer-nya, kot>. My anticipation upon this film is a bit too high. Melainkan mereka buat sekuel, 'Real Steel: The Return of Zeus'; hah, baru best. Itu barulah nafas baru.

"Look at me!", kata Charles <tengok Max senyum, chomel neh>.

5. Cultural effect

Sesuatu filem merupakan identifikasi kultural mereka sendiri. Wayang yang baik <cehh, macam betul jak bhaa> adalah wayang yang mampu memperwakilkan budaya mereka. Contohnya; wayang Amerika perlu mewakili budaya Amerika; cara hidup dan keutamaan mereka dalam hidup. Wayang kultural yang baik kebiasaannya datang dari Timur <kecuali Malaysia. Mereka mau sangat meniru cara Barat, sehingga mmbunuh identiti mereka sendiri>. Wayang Amerika yang berjaya menonjolkan budaya Amerika adalah High School Musical', 'Flipped' dan 'Hairspray'.

Congratulation: 'HSM3,' 'Hairspray', and 'Flipped' kerana berjaya melepasi saya.

Untuk 'Real Steel', saya bagi 6.47 dari 10. Sungguhpun ketamadunan Jepun moden lebih terlihat, nilai kapitalisme, rutin makanan ringan dan sejarah tinju sangat bersifat Amerika. Paling best masa awal-awal, yang dorang masukkan lagu bergenre country. Sangat Amerika.

Saya suka owh, wayang neh. Masalahnya...

6. Visual effects

In Hollywood, none can exceeds Spielberg's visual quality. He's the best in it <cute bhaa, si Max neh>.

Saya malas mau cakap panjang pasal benda neh. Steven Spielberg knows his stuff. Anything that he does with camera and his CGI staffs proved to be perfect. I've got to say, 8.57 out of 10.


Kesimpulannya...

'Real Steel' dapat 7.12 dari 10. Saya sukakannya, apatah lagi goosebump effect dia terlalu tinggi. Namun malang; judgment is judgment. Mungkin analisis saya betul dan mungkin salah, sebab ndakboleh jugak terlalu kritikal dan analitik. Movies are to be watched and learned, not evaluated and criticized <though sometimes, it is necessary>. Kalau terlalu robotik pun, maksud 'enjoy wayang' tiada. It's up to someone to really decide what this movie deserves. I would say that it is a highly-recommended film; a must-see.

Oh ya, bawa Abang Nadz and Puan Syafina sekali Kasi dorang tengok and suruh dorang menangis juga. Kalau kamu ndak menangsi, palinglaa...

The Best Romantic, Sentimental, Typical, Comedic American Film Ever

Salaam. This is an ultra-short post. If you guys are wondering what is the most powerful, life-changing American film I have ever seen; wonder no more. I watched this after a Merdeka Day rehearsal. It gave a strange yet robust effect on me. Here it is:

'Flipped': a 2010 novel-based film directed by Rob Reiner. Starrings: Madeline Carroll, Callan McAuliffe, and Rebecca De Mornay.

Some cut-scenes  to give a brief illustration.

When the two heroes met. Geez, America has lots of wonderful teenage and child acting talents.

The boy reminds me of someone familiar. ;D

I am not really into romantic stuff, but this one is exceptional. The way the story goes and scenes change is something I have never seen in other movie, so far. It is a MUST. Seriously. I will not tell you the synopsis. Not even the theme and the values.Watch it and learn something out of it. 

^P/S: Robe Reiner, you've won my heart. This film of yours is truly something that global film 

industry needs the most.

Sneak Peek: 'Spy Kids' and 'Final Destination 5'

Salaam... I have promised in my earlier post, now we go to the post-view on both films that I have watched (wait, is there such a word as post-view? ..ahh, ne'ermind).

SPY KIDS: ALL THE TIME IN THIS WORLD

So... this is the first movie that we watch: 'Spy Kids All The Time In The World'. I would give six over ten for this film. The story line was good, but not good enough for me. It was a hilarious movie and thus entertaining I should say, though there was a point at the very end of this film, where a fallacy occurred and I am not going to elaborate the failure here. I not very must-see movie. 3/5

There was a revolutionary state-of-the-art tech incorporated in this film. They provided us with a small 8" by 4" card which had eight-numbered circle, like this:

It is intended to give the audience the fourth-dimensional by providing the smell dimension. Wonder how it works? Continue reading below:

As the movie rolls on, there will be a series of numbers appearing on the screen at some particular moments.  When  a number--say 4--appears, they will have to rub the same number on the card using finger . The used finger is then being smelled. The secret lies in the compressed substances in each number. In the instance above, number four gave out a smell of sweets and candies. A nice masterpiece, yet lacks the practicality.

I like this scene when Jessica Alba who acted as a national spy brought along her toddler in a fight. And the girl is absolutely funny plus cute, too.

Now this lil guy is superb in acting. He managed to put the character into reality. A rather, small kid with big potential.

FINAL DESTINATION 5

At the evening (around 4:30PM), we watched another movie: 'Final Destination 5' To tell you the truth, this is the film that I have been waiting for this whole year, and the sole reason I went to Midvalley.  And the best part is, we watched in 3D!!!!!!!!!!  Excellent film; 9/10

This man is a hybrid of Reynaldo Gianecchini, Tom Cruise and Christian Bale. HAHAHA. A new star, but shone excellently. His acting was astounding, so too, the girl in this pictures. In the film, they acted as a couple.

A situation during when the premonition happened. This man was the hero (who turned out to be dead in the end). He was the one who foresaw the massacre, caused by construction failure. And that woman is an Amy Winehouse lookalike, and a very well actress. She played her role in a quite impressive way. 

Shafwan called him a Shinigame; a Japanese version of 'The Reaper'. I like his words, of which, I quote: "You can't cheat death" and "I'm just a cleaner when the game's over". Nice actor, he is.

Having a confrontation with the bridge survivors. At this time, two people were already dead  in their own respective way (you watch-lah, then you'll know how he died). The deceased was Isaac, a womanizer. 

This is the best actor of this film. Her death was also the scariest among all. Can you imagine, getting all laser up and falls from the third level to the car below. 

^P/S: Watch them all. Seriously; you'll be in utter loss if you did not.
